Before I start this journal of memories, one could ask, “Why not use the beautiful journal book provided with the jar?” (yes, I talk to myself)
There are several reasons…
it could be the fact that I have not kept a written journal since that time in the 8th grade when my mother found and read my diary and I was grounded for a month…
it could be that I have never been able to write anything without wanting to make changes in it, move things around, polish it up…
it could be that I am a slave to this electronic processor of words, with the ability to produce a final draft without all the eraser marks and the by-product of wadded up paper in the wastebasket
or it could be that I just love this medium of expression
And also before I start, I find myself asking, ”How to go about this?”
Since there are 101 questions/messages, maybe 2 a week for a year or so?
What if I don’t want to write about the one I pick today, can I exchange it for another? Who would know?
Should there be some order to this, like doing all the pink envelopes first, then the green…
Oh for crying out loud, quit lollygagging around, put on your Nikes and JUST DO IT!!
I received a special Christmas gift from my daughter, Carrie – her gifts are usually home-made, unique, and from the heart. This gift consists of a journal and a jar containing 101 little handmade envelopes, each with a message inside, along with some candy! The first page of the journal says:
Recipe for my life history
Combine a generous slice of your life history, a dash of nostalgia, several cups of facts and feelings and 101 deliciously interesting questions. Draw one slip of paper. Take a few minutes to enjoy the memories. Paste or write the question at the top of a blank page. Fill in your answer. Don’t worry about your handwriting or spelling – just tell your story. This product was prepared to preserve your life as a message. Enjoy the scrumptious, home-made memories that celebrate something very important – YOU!
Thanks Carrie for this neat gift. I immediately thought – this sounds like a great idea for a blog…
